...A new way to solve the commercial fusion energy problem.
The Synchrotron Fusion Reactor (SFR) is the culmination of Professor
Emeritus Hironari Yamada's life work in advanced particle and
accelerator physics. The SFR is a completely new approach to
the realization of commercial fusion energy through the deployment of a
carefully modified, tuned, and operated electron particle accelerator known as MIRRORCLE.
MIRRORCLE is a desktop sized circular accelerator and its many unique operating principles made
it the is the world first operating tabletop synchrotron. MIRRORCLE Technology
was first realized as a functioning desktop synchrotron in the
early 2000s, and has since been manufactured in a number of sizes
and application specific configurations. Commercial collaborations resulted
the creation of the MIRRORCLE Analysis Center, and MIRRORCLE
desktop synchrotrons now have a collective accumulation of two
decades of research and operation. The stability and maturity of MIRRORCLE
technology has made it the ideal platform to implement the SFR.
The SFR is NOT based on chasing extended extrapolations of idealized nuclear fusion theory, but rather
an interpolation of the many real life observed states of the MIRRORCLE platform seen over
decades.
Fusion Harmony was formed by Professor Emeritus Hironari Yamada for the purposes of
commercializing the SFR and making fusion power available to everyone. Fusion Harmony is now
a small group of people with business, science and engineering skills ready to build
the first SFR from an existing MIRRORCLE-20sx platform.
...The Synchrotron Fusion Reactor comes with many inherent benefits.
- Compact size – In its current incarnation a single SFR provides 20 MW of heat energy
which conservatively translates to 7 MW of electricity using the classical steam energy conversion cycle. This is good for powering
approximately 5600 American sized houses based on a daily consumption of 30 kWh. The small module size means it is a
cost effective viable power source for many small but important applications
needing reliable power that would otherwise have to continue to depend on legacy energy sources.
- Modularity – Multiple SFRs can be combined as required to create larger power sources yet still maintain
financial viability. Conversely multiple SFRs can work independently as a distributed power source.
- Reliability – Built on a known reliable platform using already existing and well understood technology. This
immediately breeds confidence that the SFR is not just a fancy laboratory exercise, but a ready to use
commercially viable product. Maintenance, service, support and spare parts are all understood entities.
- Financial viability – A key point with SFR development was that it is a new power source but not an
exotic power source. A prime objective of the SFR was that it must meet the demands of market based systems
where it would compete with alternatives, both new and legacy energy sources.
- Physical simplicity – Fusion as a power source has been tackled for decades to little avail. Fusion engineering is
complicated, but basic fusion theory is less so. SFR exploits various fundamental aspects of fusion theory in
a unique operating environment to bypass the typical Tokamak like plasma containment strategies
and associated headaches. The picture to the left shows a MIRRORCLE-20sx installation, the existing product platform to

orientation is the desktop synchrotron ring MIRRORCLE-20sx.
- Operational simplicity – Current fusion power sources (plasma containment strategies
like Tokamak) leading the charge towards commercialization are invariably large and complex systems requiring
teams of people to operate and maintain them. In comparison, this makes an SFR look more like an old wood stove,
except it is burning deuterium-tritium. Fusion happens in a near vacuum conditions and power
output is easily modulated to match demand. This is fundamentally different from nuclear fission reactors which require
cooling during operation regardless of the actual power demand.
- Inherent safety – Last but certainly not least is safety. SFR operation is a symphony of known components
operating together to achieve fusion. Break anything and the conditions for fusion disappear within milliseconds.
Only small amounts of power input are required for SFR operation thus this power input reservoir can not
be the source of large scale problems. This cannot be said for many other forms of energy provisioning,
both new and legacy. SFR's small size and efficient operation means regardless of what does go wrong the
problems will always remain disproportionately small. Process temperatures and pressures associated with SFR fusion
are low and not unlike existing legacy systems. And unlike nuclear fission, a reactor explosion is impossible.
- Nuclear waste – The SFR does not create a nuclear waste. Even with complete SFR site
destruction due to external reasons a small amount of on site tritium would be released. Being a gas of relatively low
radioactivity is quickly dissipated. The half life of tritium is 12.33 year so it is impossible to create long term
contamination no matter what happens. The SFR is a true environmentally compatible green energy source.
